Tenaculum Forceps
A tenaculum is a hooked, ratcheted forceps used to grasp and apply traction to tissue that will not hold under a flat jaw — most often the cervix during gynaecological procedures. The tips end in sharp points that penetrate rather than compress, which is what gives a secure hold on dense, mobile tissue.Single-tooth and multi-tooth patternsPozzi and Schroeder are the classic single-tooth cervical tenacula — one sharp point per jaw, minimal tissue trauma. Museux and Duplay carry multiple teeth across a broader jaw, spreading the traction force and holding better on a soft or friable cervix; the Museux pattern is stocked here in 6.0, 8.0 and 10.0 mm jaw widths.Jacobs is the heavier vulsellum-style pattern with interlocking claws. Braun, Teale, Skene, Barrett, Czerny, Sairges and Staude-Moore vary the jaw curve, shank length and tooth arrangement for different approaches.All patterns are ratcheted, so traction is maintained without continuous hand pressure.
