Description
Barrett Tenaculum Forceps
The Barrett tenaculum is a short, straight forceps at 18 cm. Clinicians use it to grasp and hold tissue such as the cervix.
Short and straight
At 18 cm, this model sits near the short end of our tenaculum range. So it handles well in a shallow field. However, it may fall short in a deep vagina.
Grasping tissue
A tenaculum takes a secure hold on firm tissue such as the cervix. Then the clinician can apply traction or keep the tissue still. Also, it frees the other hand for the next instrument in the sequence.
When a compact size helps
Short instruments keep the hand closer to the work. Therefore, some clinicians find them easier to steer with precision. Meanwhile, the small size stores neatly in a crowded tray.
Other short options
Our Staude-Moore pattern runs about 17 cm, a touch shorter again. By contrast, the Czerny pattern sits near 20 cm. Choose a Barrett tenaculum when 18 cm suits your field. Also, its modest length suits office work where a long tenaculum would feel clumsy.
Reprocessing Barrett tenaculum
Rinse the tips under running water right after use. Next, wash it in neutral detergent, working a soft brush into the joint. Dry it fully, then keep the points covered in storage.
