YO-9 Periodontal Probes

The YO-9 periodontal probe is a named probe pattern for measuring sulcus and pocket depth during periodontal charting. Hygienists and dentists use it to record readings at each tooth surface, then track changes between visits. We carry four versions of the YO-9, each from our supplier’s probe range.

Standard and Calibrated YO-9

Standard is the basic YO-9 version. Calibrated is listed separately by our supplier as the calibrated YO-9. Because the supplier gives no written marking scheme for either, we do not quote band positions here. Instead, compare the photos to see how the markings and handle differ. Then pick the one that matches the probes already in your operatories.

Colour-Coded and Colour-Coded, Double-Ended

The Colour-Coded YO-9 adds coloured bands along the working end. That makes depth easier to read at a glance, especially under operatory light. The Colour-Coded, Double-Ended version keeps the coloured bands and adds a second working end. As a result, one instrument can cover both sides of an arch without a swap.

Choosing a YO-9 for Your Team

Consistency comes first. When every clinician reads the same YO-9 marking, charts from different visits compare cleanly. So, pick one version for daily charting, then add another only if a team member strongly prefers it. Also, keep at least two per operatory, because probes cycle through the sterilizer often.

YO-9 Inspection and Support

All four YO-9 versions are stainless steel, and every YO-9 probe gets a careful United States look-over before it is packed. YO-9 probes ship unsterilized; clean and autoclave each Standard, Calibrated or Colour-Coded piece before charting. Every YO-9 version holds three years against manufacturing defects, on every marked end.
