Description
Krallenheber Root Elevators
Krallenheber root elevators take their name from the German for claw lifter. The hooked, claw-like tip catches a root and draws it up and out of the socket. We offer two figures, Fig. 1 and Fig. 2.
What the Claw Tip Is For
Most elevators move a root by wedging or turning. A claw tip, by contrast, hooks the root and pulls. That makes it handy once a root has loosened but still sits deep. It can also help when a straight blade keeps slipping off a smooth root face.
Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 Side by Side
Both figures share the claw design. The surest way to choose is to hold both and test them on a model. Then keep the one that hooks your usual roots with the least effort. Each figure is a single listing; begin with one and add the second when needed. Many users end up with both Krallenheber root elevators for opposite approaches.
Working the Hook Safely
First, loosen the root with a luxating or wedge elevator. After that, the claw does the final lift.
- Brace a finger on solid tooth or bone near the site.
- Seat the claw on a ledge of root, not on bone you want to keep.
- Lift with a short, steady pull along the path of the socket.
- Stop and reseat if the tip starts to slip.
Also, keep the next tooth out of any lever path unless it comes out too.
Keeping the Claw Crisp
A blunt claw slides instead of gripping. So clean the hook right after each case, because debris lodges in its curve. Then look along the inner edge for rolled metal. Send a worn tip for sharpening rather than forcing it.
From Order to Chairside
Our claw figures use a stainless steel picked to satisfy ASTM F899, built to our own drawings, with a single quality look-over by US staff. They land non-sterile; a proper scrub and autoclave puts them to work, again and again. If a production flaw appears, rest easy: Intrace grants three years against manufacturing defects. For small apical fragments, see the Heidbrink root tip picks. Our root elevators page lists the wider range, and the help pages cover orders and returns.
