Description
Nevius Extracting Forceps
Nevius extracting forceps serve the upper arch. So the family covers molars on each side and the canine at the arch corner. You can order any of the five figures alone. Our order sheet sets the specification we make them to; each piece was then inspected in the United States before it joined our stock.
Why the Molar Figures Come Left and Right
Each upper molar sits on three roots: two on the cheek side and one toward the palate. So the buccal beak has a point that slips into the trifurcation, the notch between those two cheek-side roots. By contrast, the palatal beak cups the single palatal root. Because of this, a figure shaped for one side cannot fit the other. That is why Fig. 88L serves the left upper molars and Fig. 88R serves the right.
The Five Nevius Options
- Fig. 88L – upper molars, left side
- Fig. 88R – upper molars, right side
- Fig. 10H – upper canines
- Fig. 10S – upper canines
- Fig. 110 – from our surgical list
For molars, buy the pair if you treat both sides. Both 10H and 10S suit upper canines, so if your tray holds one, order the same letter to keep your kit uniform. Fig. 110 belongs to the same family; ask us for details.
Reading the Long Canine Root
Of all the teeth, the upper canine usually carries the longest root. Therefore, place the beaks far down that root, clear of the crown. After that, apply slow pressure toward cheek and palate, and add gentle rotation once the tooth begins to give.
A Quick Alignment Check
Before each case, close the handles and hold the beaks to the light. The tips should touch along their full length, with neither side lagging. Then work the hinge through its full travel. Any grit or stiffness means it needs a clean and a drop of lubricant.
Warranty, Steel and Links
These forceps arrive non-sterile. Once you run them through your normal cleaning and sterilisation cycle, they are ready for many more cases. The Nevius line rides on three years against manufacturing defects; thus any production flaw is ours to sort out. The steel follows ASTM F899.
