Description
Ash Gum Knives
A gum knife gives the periodontist a fixed, rigid blade for incising and trimming gingiva where a disposable scalpel feels too flimsy. Each ash gum knife on this page follows the Ash eponym pattern. Three versions are offered, numbered 1, 2 and 3. Because they are sold one at a time, you can start with a single number or stock all three.
Numbers 1, 2 and 3
The option labels are simply the numbers 1, 2 and 3. Our source list gives no further written description of how the blades differ. So compare the three photos to see the outline and angle of each working end before you order. If your practice already uses an Ash knife, the matching number is the quickest way to keep your trays identical.
Typical Uses in Periodontal Work
Gum knives are used for gingivectomy and gingivoplasty incisions, for trimming tissue tags and for recontouring margins around teeth. For example, a clinician may make the primary incision with one knife and then refine the interdental tissue with another. Meanwhile, a crown lengthening case may need a blade that reaches the palatal side comfortably. Having more than one Ash pattern on hand makes those transitions easier.
Sharpening and Handling the Ash Blades
- Hone the edge regularly with a fine stone so incisions stay clean
- Store each knife so the blade does not touch other instruments
- Inspect the edge under light before every procedure
Our United States staff reviews the edge and handle of each Ash knife before it ships. However, these knives travel non-sterile, so scrub and autoclave them before surgery. Also, Intrace USA grants every Ash blade number three years against manufacturing defects knife by knife.
The stainless grade follows ASTM F899 for surgical blades and instruments. Browse our periodontal instrument category, compare the Goldman-Fox Gingivectomy Knives, or see our FAQs.
Ash gum knives are meant for trained periodontal clinicians. Follow our blade cleaning and sterilization guide and check shipping and delivery.
