Colour-Coded Periodontal Probes
Reading fine etched lines deep in a pocket can slow down a full-mouth chart. A colour-coded periodontal probe solves that with coloured bands that stand out against tissue and blood. Your eye finds the band at the gingival margin, and the reading follows. This page offers the probe in two versions: single-ended and double-ended.
Single-Ended or Double-Ended
The Single-Ended option carries one coloured probe tip on its handle. The Double-Ended option carries a working end at each side, so you can turn the instrument instead of reaching for another. Both come from instrument sets in our supplier’s catalogue. However, the catalogue does not print the band spacing for either version. So check the photos, and confirm the scale against a ruler if you are matching existing charts.
Why Colour Helps Charting
Colour bands are quick to read at a glance. For example, a reading that falls inside a band or at its edge is easier to call than a line count. Then the assistant can record numbers without waiting. Because many offices chart six sites per tooth, those seconds add up over a full mouth.
Probing With Consistent Force
- Insert the tip parallel to the long axis of the tooth.
- Use light pressure until you feel resistance.
- Then read the band at the gingival margin.
Consistent technique matters more than the probe itself. So train the team to use the same force on every visit.
Before shipping, we check each colour-coded probe in the United States for tip straightness and clear, unbroken bands. It comes non-sterile; therefore, clean it gently and sterilize it as you would your other probes. Also, we offer three years against manufacturing defects on this probe, coloured bands included.
The steel parts meet ASTM F899. For a classic etched alternative, see our Williams periodontal probes. You can also explore the diagnostic and periodontal instrument category or our frequently asked questions.
