Description
Woodson Periosteal Elevators
The Woodson periosteal elevator is a compact pattern for lifting soft tissue off bone. You slide its working end under the periosteum and peel the flap back in one layer. In the supplier catalogue, the Woodson appears beside the West and Goldman-Fox patterns. It is sold as one pattern, so there are no sizes to pick.
Why a Compact Pattern Helps
Not every flap is large. For a single implant site or a small periodontal flap, a big elevator can feel clumsy. The Woodson, by comparison, gives a smaller working end for those modest openings. So it often stays in the hand from incision through closure.
Reflecting Tissue Cleanly
Good reflection starts at the bone. First, seat the end firmly against the cortex under the incision line. Then advance it with short sweeping strokes. Keeping contact with bone helps the flap lift in full thickness rather than tearing. Once the ridge is exposed, the elevator can also hold the flap aside briefly.
How It Differs From Larger Elevators
We stock several broader patterns, including Molt, Prichard and Seldin elevators. Those suit wide flaps or extensive grafting. The Woodson, however, is the one to grab for small, precise reflection. Compare its photo with the others to see the working end before ordering.
Caring for the Edge
A periosteal elevator should be smooth but not dull. Therefore inspect the edge after each case for burrs or bending.
Our elevator steel meets ASTM F899 specifications. A member of our United States team inspects each Woodson end before it leaves the building. Woodson buyers get three years against manufacturing defects, honored if a Woodson end bends or cracks without misuse. See Dental Implant Instruments for more, and keep the wider Prichard Periosteal Elevators nearby for larger flaps. Return and warranty details are in the FAQs.
