Description
Physick Extracting Forceps
Physick extracting forceps are an eponym pattern we stock in two figures. Fig. 5 targets lower third molars, while Fig. 6 comes from our surgical list. This page explains how each one fits a kit, without claims we cannot back.
Fig. 5 at the back of the jaw
Lower wisdom teeth sit far back, often with little room to work. For that reason, a figure set aside for this tooth makes sense. Fig. 5 is that figure in the Physick line. In practice, you would reach for it after you have checked the roots on a radiograph and loosened the tooth.
Where Fig. 6 fits
Fig. 6 belongs to the same eponym family and appears on our surgical list. We do not have a fuller beak profile to share here, so we will not guess at one. If you need details before you buy, please ask us first.
Choosing between the two
- Fig. 5 – lower third molars
- Fig. 6 – from our surgical list
- Both figures are single instruments, so order only what your kit lacks
Keeping the joint in good shape
A box joint works best when it is clean and free. So rinse off blood and debris soon after use. Then open the forceps fully in the washer or bath, so water reaches the hinge. A drop of instrument lubricant before sterilization keeps the action smooth. Finally, check that the beak tips meet evenly when you close the handles.
Seating and luxation
Third molars reward patience. First, slide each beak down the root until bone stops it. Next, use slow buccal and lingual movement rather than force. If a root resists, consider sectioning instead of more pressure.
From our shelf to your tray
Both figures follow our specification. Their stainless steel conforms with ASTM F899, and a US crew eyes every piece. You get each one non-sterile, and it can be reprocessed and reused after cleaning and sterilization. Our backing lasts three years against manufacturing defects for any fault we caused in making it. For another lower wisdom option, view the Stiksa forceps, or go back to our full forceps listing. Help with orders sits on the FAQs.
