Williger Periodontal Instruments
Our supplier lists the Williger pattern in the periodontal section of its catalogue. This Williger periodontal instrument is a hand elevator used to free gingiva and periosteum from bone during flap and extraction surgery. It comes in four versions that differ in length and, at 16 cm, in tip shape.
Four Versions Side by Side
- 13cm: the shortest, for front teeth and small mouths.
- 16 cm, Rounded Tip: a mid-length option whose rounded end glides under tissue gently.
- 16 cm, Pointed Tip: the same length with a pointed end for starting at a papilla or a tight margin.
- 17cm: the longest, for posterior reach.
The catalogue does not describe the tip on the 13 and 17 cm versions. So compare the product photos if tip shape matters to you.
Rounded or Pointed at 16 cm
A pointed tip finds its way under a tight papilla, so it helps start a flap. However, a rounded tip spreads pressure over more tissue. Therefore, it is the safer choice for thin gingiva once the flap is underway. Many clinicians keep one of each and switch mid-procedure.
Working Along the Bone
First, slide the tip under the cut edge until it touches bone. Then sweep along the bone in short movements, keeping the instrument in contact. Also, support the flap with a finger or retractor so it does not fold. When tissue resists, recheck the incision rather than pushing harder.
From Inspection to Warranty
All four Williger lengths are hand-checked inside the United States before leaving our stock. They come unsterilized, so a wash and an autoclave cycle must precede clinical use. Meanwhile, a faulty unit is replaced, since each length carries three years against manufacturing defects from purchase.
These instruments meet ASTM F899 for steel. To hold the raised tissue, add our Williger retractors. In addition, the periodontal and restorative instruments category and our FAQs answer common sizing questions.
