Description
Weitlander
Holding the lips and cheeks back by hand ties up an assistant and still leaves the view uneven. The Weitlander mouth gag solves that with a rectangular wire frame that sits around the mouth opening. Two curved bows rest against the lips and cheeks, while springs at the sides keep them spread. Our supplier catalogue shows it on its retractors and mouth gags page, and we stock it in 11, 13 and 15 cm. A United States inspector flexes the springs and looks over the bows on each frame before it is packed.
How the Spring Frame Holds Its Position
To fit it, you compress the frame slightly and place the bows inside the lips. Once released, the side springs push the bows outward. As a result, the cheeks and lips stay retracted without a hand on the instrument. That leaves the whole dentition in view, which helps during photography, bonding or long restorative visits. Because the frame is open, it also keeps the anterior field clear for instruments.
Sizing the Frame: 11, 13 or 15 cm
The three options differ in frame size. The 11cm frame is the smallest, so it suits children and adults with a narrow mouth. Next, the 13cm frame is the middle size that fits many adult patients. Finally, the 15cm frame spreads widest, which helps with larger mouths or when maximum cheek retraction is needed. Practices that see a mixed patient list often keep all three. If you are choosing just one, compare the photos with your current cheek retractors.
Wire, Springs and Warranty
The frame is stainless steel wire. It comes non-sterile; scrub around the spring coils, rinse and sterilize it before it touches a patient. On top of that, each frame size and its springs get three years against manufacturing defects; wire bows count too.
Background on surgical stainless steel is in the ASTM F899 standard. More gags and retractors appear in our Maxillofacial Surgery Instruments category. When a patient needs the jaws held apart as well, the Mouth Gag Molt works alongside this frame. Answers about ordering are in our FAQs.
This frame is supplied for use by trained dental and surgical professionals. Spring cleaning tips are on care and sterilization, and delivery windows are on shipping and delivery.
