Kells Extracting Forceps
Our Kells extracting forceps follow the American pattern. They come in two figures, Fig. 99A and Fig. 99C. Both serve the upper incisors, canines and premolars. So one pattern covers most of the maxillary arch in front of the molars.
An eponym from the American school
American pattern forceps use US-style numbers rather than European ones. The Kells name marks a long-standing design within that system. Today it suits dentists who like a single family for the upper anterior and premolar zone.
Choosing 99A or 99C
- Fig. 99A: upper incisors, canines and premolars.
- Fig. 99C: the same tooth group, in a second figure of the pattern.
- Both figures: a practical choice when two chairs run at once.
We sell each figure singly. Because both treat the same teeth, the choice often comes down to feel. Try one first, then add the other if you like the pattern.
Why a spare matters
A busy upper anterior list can empty a tray fast. While one pair sits in the sterilizer, the second stays ready. As a result, the day keeps moving without a gap.
Working the upper front teeth
Upper anterior teeth tend to have single conical roots. Seat the beaks apically on root surface, never on thin enamel. Then use gentle rotation for incisors, and add buccal pressure for the long canine root. Finally, deliver along the line of the root.
Checking beak alignment
Close the forceps and look at the tips against a light. The beaks should meet evenly along their length. If you see a gap or twist, stop using the pair and contact us.
Order notes and cover
We have the Kells pattern made to our own drawing, then looked over by our own people in the United States. Its stainless alloy answers to ASTM F899. Fresh from the carton it is not sterile; however, a full clean and sterilizing cycle lets it work many times over. Each figure also rests under our shield: three years against manufacturing defects, no small print. Compare it with other eponyms in our forceps collection, or with the Cryer pattern. Our help page answers common order questions.
