Weingart utility pliers are the go-to tool for placing and removing archwire. Tapered, serrated tips hold the wire at a handy angle. We list seven options, and each one is sold singly.

The everyday archwire plier

You use this plier at almost every adjustment visit. First, it guides the wire into tubes and brackets. It also holds wire while you make small bends.

Seven Weingart options explained

• Tapered, Serrated: tapered beaks fit between brackets, and the serrations grip firmly. The catalogue calls it the most popular pattern.
• Narrow, Slim and Narrow, Long Tips: slim designs for reach. In addition, the Narrow, Slim has long handles for the back of the mouth and suits lingual work.
• Mini: a slim design for posterior and lingual areas.
• Mini, Style 2 and Standard, Style 2: alternative patterns of the Mini and the Standard, so please check the photos to compare them.
• Standard: the classic full size pattern.

Figures for the Style 2 pair

For both Style 2 options, round wire runs from .012” to .020”. Their rectangular limit, in turn, is .022” x .028”. However, the catalogue gives no figures for the other options.

Two per chair

For a new operatory, start with the Standard or the Tapered, Serrated. Then add a Mini or Narrow, Slim for molars and lingual cases. Two Weingart utility pliers per chair keep visits moving.

Look after the serrations

Debris can pack into the serrations. So brush them clean after each use. Then dry the plier and check that the tips still meet.

It is built to our own specification, and we run the inspection in the United States. Our stainless steel here conforms with ASTM F899. Each plier goes out non-sterile; give it cleaning and sterilisation, and you can use it on patient after patient.
