Description
Washington Periodontal Probes
The Washington periodontal probe is a calibrated diagnostic instrument for measuring sulcus and pocket depth during a periodontal exam. Hygienists walk it around each tooth and read the markings at the gingival margin. Then they record the numbers in the chart. We stock it in two versions.
Calibrated or Double-Ended
The Calibrated option is the single-ended Washington probe: one marked working end on a handle. It suits clinicians who chart with one probe and switch instruments for other steps. The Double-Ended option carries two Washington tips, one on either handle end. As a result, you can turn the probe around instead of reaching for a second instrument. Both versions come from the same Washington pattern, so compare the photos to see the handle and end layout.
Reading Millimetre Marks Consistently
A probe only helps when every team member reads it the same way. For that reason, practices tend to standardize on one marking pattern across all operatories. If your charts are built around Washington markings, ordering this probe keeps new readings comparable with older ones. Unsure which scheme you need? Then compare the photos with the probes already in your trays.
Light Pressure, Repeatable Readings
Probing works best with a gentle, steady touch, and a Washington tip makes that easy to feel. Many hygienists keep two Calibrated probes per room, so one is always ready while the other is reprocessed. Meanwhile, the Double-Ended Washington suits trays where space is tight.
Washington Steel and Warranty
Each Washington probe is made of stainless steel and Washington units get a United States hand check before boxing. Washington probes arrive unsterilized; wash and autoclave the Calibrated or Double-Ended version before charting. Both carry three years against manufacturing defects covering Washington markings and shank.
Our steel follows ASTM F899, described on the FDA standards page. Explore more probes in Diagnostic, Periodontal and Restorative Instruments, compare with our Williams Periodontal Probes, and see the FAQs for order support.
