Description
V-Bend Stop Pliers
Sometimes an archwire needs a stop, or it needs to be a little shorter. V-bend stop pliers solve both with a small 1 mm V bend. We offer two options: 1 mm and Standard.
The Two Options
- Standard: makes 1 mm V bends; for round or rectangular wire up to .025”
- 1 mm: a second catalogue pattern, listed for round wire of .012” through .020”
So which one? The Standard takes the wider range of wire, so most clinics start there. The 1 mm option suits light round wire. Look at the photos to compare the two shapes. We sell each option singly.
Stops in Nickel-Titanium Wire
The catalogue notes that the Standard pattern is very good for placing stops in nickel-titanium wire. That wire is springy and hard to bend with a plain plier. A V-bend stop plier crimps a small, firm bend instead. As a result, the stop holds its place.
Shortening an Archwire
A V bend also takes up a small length of wire. For example, you can use it to snug an archwire without cutting a new one. Then you check the fit and add another bend if needed.
Look After the Jaws
The jaws must meet cleanly to make a neat V. So check them under good light each week. Also brush them after each use, because debris in the jaws can change the bend.
Arrival
Both options come non-sterile. Each follows our spec. You may reuse them after every cleaning and sterilisation cycle.
Whichever option you choose, three years against manufacturing defects stays in place for faults from the build. Their steel is stainless and matches ASTM F899. For a stop loop instead of a V bend, see the Nance loop closing pliers. More tools for archwire work sit in our orthodontic instrument listings, and our frequently asked questions help with orders.
