Description
Trotter Split-Beak Extracting Forceps
Each beak on a Trotter forceps has a split down the middle, so it touches the root at two points instead of along one broad edge. Our Trotter split-beak forceps follow the English pattern and come in eleven options, from universal figures to root and wisdom tooth figures.
What a split beak changes
Usually a solid beak rests on the root along a curve. A split beak, by contrast, makes two contacts on each side, which gives four points around the root in all. That spread can help the grip on tapered or uneven roots. However, it still needs a clean seat on root surface, below the gum line and clear of crown enamel.
The full Trotter list
- Universal: Fig. 166, Fig. 167
- Front teeth: Fig. 168 for centrals, laterals and anterior roots; Fig. 168 for upper canines
- Mixed groups: Fig. 169 for centrals, laterals, premolars and all roots; Fig. 169 for lower canines
- Premolars and roots: Fig. 170 and Fig. 172
- Back of the mouth: Fig. 171 for wisdom and molar roots; Fig. 173 for lingually inclined roots and wisdom teeth; Fig. 346 for lower roots
Choosing between the eleven
Start with the tooth group you treat most. For example, a practice that removes many anterior roots may begin with Fig. 168, then add Fig. 169 for premolars. If wisdom teeth fill your list, look at Fig. 171 and Fig. 173. Note that 168 and 169 each come in two versions. We sell all our Trotter split-beak forceps singly, so the set can grow with your needs.
Where it fits in a root workflow
Split beaks pair well with sectioning, because each divided root becomes a single unit to grip. In practice, an elevator loosens the root first. Then the Trotter figure lifts it out with gentle rotation and buccal-lingual moves.
Ordering a Trotter figure
We set the specification for each Trotter figure, and our team inspects it on US soil. The body uses stainless steel to ASTM F899. On top of that, you get a sturdy three years against manufacturing defects the moment the box reaches you. It arrives non-sterile; after a full cleaning and sterilization round it goes back to work. See more in our forceps for extraction, compare our upper root forceps, or read the buyer FAQs.
For trained dental staff only. Before ordering, glance at our sterilization guidance and dispatch times.
