Narrowing the Choice

First, think about root width. For a very slim root, Fig. 97 has very thin beaks, and the 51 and 76 series also run fine. Next, think about where the root sits. For example, Fig. 80 is for upper molar roots. In addition, Fig. 52A also suits resection work, while American Fig. 2 serves upper and lower roots.

English or American Numbering

English figures follow European-style numbers, while American figures use US-style numbers. So the same number can mean different shapes in each system. Therefore, order by the full label, not the number alone.

What a Fitting Handle Adds

Fitting-handle versions keep the beak and figure number but swap in an anatomical handle. It sits deeper in the palm, so some users find it steadier for fine root work.

Root Technique in the Maxilla

Upper root extracting forceps are mostly straight or bayonet in form. Seat the beaks as high up the root as access permits; then luxate with small buccal and palatal moves. Rotation often helps with a single round root.

Each figure is a single item. It leaves us non-sterile, so clean and sterilise it first; then it goes back into use with every routine cycle. The stainless steel matches ASTM F899.
