Description
Sterilizing Drum
A stainless sterilizing drum keeps gauze, dressings and linen together on the trip from the autoclave to the chair. This round drum follows the classic Schimmelbusch pattern. It has perforated sides, a sliding band, a hinged lid with a clasp and a carry handle. So the soft goods inside stay covered until you need them.
How the Vent Band Works
Rows of holes run around the side wall. A sliding band covers or opens them. First, you slide the band to open the holes before the cycle, so steam can reach the load. Then, once the cycle ends, you slide it back to shut them. The clasp holds the lid down while you carry the drum by its handle.
Sixteen Drum Sizes, Grouped
Each size reads diameter × height in mm. Pick by the bulk of your load and the room in your chamber.
- Small: 80×80, 120×120 and 160×120.
- Medium: 190×140, 190×200, 240×120, 240×160 and 240×240.
- Large: 290×120, 290×160, 290×240, 340×160 and 340×240.
- Extra large: 390×145, 390×200 and 390×290.
Before you order, measure the inside of your autoclave. Also leave space for steam to move around the drum.
What Goes Inside
Most clinics fill a stainless sterilizing drum with gauze, cotton, swabs, drapes or towels. Pack it loosely, because a tight pack blocks steam. In addition, keep heavy instruments out, since the drum suits soft goods best.
Day-to-Day Habits
Lift the lid only when you need an item. Then close it again at once. However, your own protocol decides how long a shut drum stays in service.
Getting the Drum Ready
It leaves our dock non-sterile, so scrub, rinse and dry it before a full cycle. After that, you can reuse it for years of loads.
Drum Warranty and Links
We set the design brief for this drum, and each one passes inspection in the United States. Its body uses stainless steel in line with ASTM F899. Every sterilizing drum carries three years against manufacturing defects, whatever drum size you order. Browse the hollow ware and tray range for more. A tall forceps jar pairs well with it.
