Description
Spirit Lamp
Lab and bench work often needs a small, steady flame. This stainless spirit lamp burns alcohol through a wick. It has a wick holder and a cap. It is the taller of our two lamps, so it holds more fuel.
Parts of the Lamp
- Body: stainless, and it holds the alcohol.
- Wick holder: sits at the top and grips the wick.
- Cap: covers the wick to put out the flame and stop fuel loss.
The lamp comes as a single version. If you want a lower, squat shape, there is a compact model.
What It Is For
Dental staff use a spirit lamp to soften wax for bite records and wax-ups. It also warms small tools, such as wax knives and carvers. In addition, it can heat a spatula for some lab steps.
Filling and Lighting
First, fill the body with the alcohol your office uses, but not to the brim. Then fit the wick holder and let the wick soak. Light it with a match or lighter. When you finish, place the cap over the wick. That puts out the flame and keeps fuel from drying out.
Fire Safety
Keep the stainless spirit lamp on a stable, heat-proof surface. Also keep it clear of paper and gauze. Never refill a lit or hot lamp. Because an alcohol flame can be hard to see, always assume it is burning until you cap it.
Cleaning Notes
It ships non-sterile. Empty the fuel before you clean it. Then wipe the body and dry it fully. Change the wick when it chars down.
Spec and Warranty
We wrote the brief, and each lamp gets checked in the United States. Its stainless steel follows ASTM F899. Body and cap both carry three years against manufacturing defects. Our hollow ware and bench items page has more. For a lower shape, see the compact spirit lamp. And our FAQ page answers common points.
