Space is tight on many dental benches. This compact spirit lamp is low and squat, with a wide base. As a result, it is hard to knock over. It burns alcohol through a wick and comes with a cap to snuff the flame.

Typical Bench Tasks

Use it to warm wax for a bite rim or a small wax-up. It also heats a wax knife or a carver. Also, some labs keep one at each station so staff do not share.

Safe Use

Set the compact spirit lamp on a heat-proof spot, away from paper and cloth. Fill it only when cold and unlit. Next, light the wick and keep watch while it burns. Since alcohol flames are faint in bright light, cap the lamp as soon as you finish.

Wick and Fuel Care

Then trim or swap the wick once it chars. Also keep the cap on between uses, because alcohol evaporates fast. Pour out old fuel if the lamp sits unused for a long time.

Cleaning the Body

The lamp ships non-sterile. Empty it, wipe the outside and dry it well. Then store it capped and upright.
