Description
Soft Wire and Ligature Cutters
Steel ligatures leave a tail that you must trim. These soft wire cutters handle that job, as well as other light wire. Each one has stainless steel tips rated for soft wire between .010″ and .015″, or about a quarter to .38 of a millimeter. Three head angles let you match the cutter to the area you work in.
Small Cuts, Close to the Bracket
After you tie a ligature, the twisted end sticks out. So you cut it short, then tuck it under the wire. A fine cutter lets you get close without catching the bracket or the gum. Because the beaks are slim, you can also see what you are doing.
0°, 15° or 45°: Which Head?
- 0° (Plain): the Mini pattern with a plain head, for direct access at the front of the mouth.
- 15° Angled: a slight angle that helps along the side of the arch.
- 45° Angled: a steeper angle for the harder areas further back.
All three share the same rated wire range. We sell each one singly, so many clinics keep two angles at hand.
Stay Within the Rated Range
These soft wire cutters suit ligatures and soft wire only. Heavy archwire is a different job. In fact, cutting wire above .015″ can chip or dull the edges quickly. For that reason, keep a hard wire cutter beside it for thicker wire.
Edge and Hinge Care
After every patient, clear debris from the tips before it dries. Next, hold the cutter to the light and check that the edges meet along their length. Then oil the hinge a little. The cutter ships non-sterile. Once it goes through cleaning and sterilization, you can reuse it.
Quality, Warranty and Links
Each cutter follows our specification, and inspection happens at our United States base. Its stainless steel is consistent with ASTM F899. Each cutter has a plain warranty, and it reads three years against manufacturing defects. For thicker wire, see our hard wire cutters. Our orthodontic cutters and pliers page lists more, and the FAQ section explains orders.
