Seldin Root Elevators

Seldin root elevators have a straight shank and a flat, slightly concave blade. The hollow face sits against the root as you work. We offer twelve figures, and each one comes as a single piece. A six-piece Seldin set also lives in our Sets category.

What the blade is for

You place the concave side toward the root and slide the tip into the ligament space. Then small rotations and gentle wedging start to loosen it. Because the shank runs straight, the tool feels direct and easy to aim. Use a finger rest throughout, and never take support from a healthy neighbour.

Reading the figure codes

The letters after each number tell you about the blade. For example, S means a narrower blade, while W means a wider one. Also, L and R mark a handed pair for opposite sides. Plain numbers carry none of these suffixes.

• Handed pairs: 1L and 1R, 4L and 4R
• Narrow S blades: 2S, 3S and 34S
• Wide W blades: 301W and 304W
• Plain figures: 19, 20 and 34

Narrow, wide or handed?

In general, a narrow blade fits tight spaces and slim roots. A wide blade spreads force over more of the root and suits larger teeth. Meanwhile, the L and R pairs help when you need to work from one side. For example, 34 and 34S let you compare a standard and a narrow blade of the same figure.

Keeping the edge right

A flat blade should stay thin and free of nicks. So check it after each use and sharpen with care. Also, store figures apart so the edges do not touch.

Ordering and cover

Each Seldin figure follows our own specification, and a person in the United States checks it by eye. Seldin blades use stainless steel to ASTM F899. You receive it non-sterile, and a full cleaning and sterilization run puts it back into use. Our support extends three years against manufacturing defects on any figure.
