The Schulze-Bergmann speculum is a rectal speculum with a choice of four blade lengths. Every option measures 22 cm overall.

Blade lengths

The 60 mm and 80 mm blades suit the anal canal. By contrast, the 125 mm and 150 mm blades reach into the rectum. So pick the depth you work at most often.

Choosing blade depth

Start with the shortest blade that shows the area you need. Then move to a longer one only if the lesion sits higher. This approach keeps the examination as comfortable as possible for the patient.
