Lane Stomach Clamp

The Lane stomach clamp is a long clamp for gastric surgery. It measures 30 cm, with straight or curved jaws.

Straight or curved

Straight jaws cross the stomach in a direct line. Curved jaws, on the other hand, let you reach around the greater curve or into a deeper field.

Where it fits

General surgeons use the Lane during gastric resection and gastroenterostomy. Also, many trays carry one straight and one curved clamp.

Using it in gastric surgery

Surgeons place the clamp across the stomach before division, so contents stay contained. Then the jaws hold the tissue while the resection or anastomosis goes ahead. Because the clamp is long, it spans the stomach in one bite. Also, protect the field with moist packs around the jaws. When you release the clamp, open it slowly and inspect the tissue. In addition, keeping one straight and one curved clamp on the tray covers most gastric cases.

Care of the Lane stomach clamp

Wipe the long jaws down before blood dries on them. Later, clean the ratchet teeth and joint with a brush. Afterwards, dry the clamp and test that the ratchet holds at each tooth.
