The Haberer stomach clamp is a long, straight clamp for gastric surgery. It measures 36 cm, so its jaws span the full width of the stomach.

Placing the clamp

Open the jaws wide and slide them across the stomach at the planned line. Then close the clamp and check it holds the full width. Because the jaws are long, make sure the tips extend beyond the far edge before you close. Also, protect the surrounding tissue with moist packs. After the resection, release the clamp slowly and inspect the edge before closure. Also, many trays carry the Haberer alongside a shorter clamp, so the surgeon can choose by the size of the stomach.

Care of the Haberer stomach clamp

Because the jaws are long, clean them along their whole length with a soft brush. Then dry the clamp and sight down the jaws to confirm they close evenly.
