The clamps need firm, even pressure to close. So the long forceps gives you that pressure while your hand stays out of the field.

A full De Martel-Wolfson set includes clamps, a holder and this forceps. Therefore check which parts your team already owns before you order.

Using it during anastomosis

Grip the clamp with the forceps and open it before placing it on the bowel. Then close the forceps to lock the clamp in position. Because the forceps is long, it keeps your hand clear of the field. Also, use the same forceps to release each clamp at the end. Finally, check each clamp has fully released before you lift it away from the bowel. In addition, store the forceps with the clamps and holders, so a complete set is always ready.

Care of De Martel closing forceps

Open the forceps fully to reach the joint when you clean it. Next, dry it with a lint-free cloth. Then apply a little instrument milk before you sterilize it.
