Ralk Root Splinter Forceps
Small root splinters can stay in the socket after a tooth breaks during extraction. Our Ralk splinter forceps are a single figure for picking out those root fragments.
When a splinter stays behind
A root can snap when it is curved, brittle or held tight in dense bone. Then a thin piece may remain at the base of the socket or against one wall. Leaving it can sometimes cause trouble later, so most clinicians try to retrieve it when it is safe to do so.
Finding the fragment first
Good light and suction come before any forceps. First, clear blood from the socket so you can see the edge of the fragment. Next, a fine elevator or root tip pick can lift the piece a little. Once an edge stands free, the splinter forceps can take hold of it.
Using the Ralk pattern
Grip the fragment by its edge or its narrow end, not across a thin wall that might crumble. Then draw it out along the path it came in. Use light finger force, since a splinter rarely needs more. If it slips, reposition rather than squeeze harder. In short, the Ralk splinter forceps reward patience.
Habits that help with fragments
- Keep the socket dry with steady suction.
- Count the root tips you expect, then match them to what you removed.
- Take a radiograph if you suspect a piece is still there.
- Note any retained fragment in the record.
Small tip, careful cleaning
Fine tips can hold dried blood near the joint. So rinse the forceps soon after the case and brush the tips gently. Before sterilization, confirm the tips still close flush, because a sprung tip will not hold a thin splinter.
Getting the Ralk pattern
Our specification sets out how we want this figure built, and our US staff inspect each one. We use stainless steel to ASTM F899 for the whole instrument. Under our warranty, a buyer holds three years against manufacturing defects, timed from the purchase. It leaves our shelf non-sterile, yet it suits reuse after a wash and a sterilizer run. Compare the Stieglitz splinter pattern, see our whole extraction forceps range, or look through our FAQs.
Professional use only. Look up our reprocessing steps and delivery options whenever you need them.
