Description

Stieglitz Root Splinter Forceps

Stieglitz root splinter forceps are a fine tool for the last stage of an extraction. When a root breaks, small pieces can stay in the socket. This pattern lets you grasp those pieces without a large beak in the way. It follows our own specification for how it is made, and a final inspection takes place on US soil.

A Tool for Broken Roots

Even a careful extraction can end with a fractured apex. So most kits keep at least one splinter forceps on hand. Unlike a full extracting forceps, this design is meant for small fragments, not whole teeth. As a result, it reaches places a heavier figure cannot.

When to Reach for It

  • A root tip snaps off during delivery.
  • Thin bone or tooth splinters sit loose in the socket.
  • A fragment has already moved and only needs lifting out.
  • You need a fine grip after sectioning a tooth.

Working in a Small Socket

Good light and suction come first, because you must see the fragment clearly. Then close the tips on the piece with light pressure. Pull it out along the path it came from. If a fragment is still firm, loosen it with a root elevator before you try again. Squeezing harder only risks crushing it.

Keeping the Tips True

Fine tips lose their grip if they bend. Therefore, check that they meet evenly each time you set up the tray. Also, store the forceps where heavy tools cannot press on it. After cleaning, a drop of lubricant in the joint keeps the action smooth.

Ordering This Single Item

This listing is one forceps with no size options. It ships without sterilisation, so run it through your cleaning and sterilising routine before its first case; after that it returns to service cycle after cycle. Its stainless steel follows ASTM F899. Should a defect in making appear, you have our pledge: three years against manufacturing defects, starting from purchase. For a sibling design, see the Arthur root splinter forceps. Also, shop the wider forceps collection or read our frequently asked questions.
