Description
Fish-Hook Root Forceps, Upper
Fish-hook upper root forceps are built for roots in the maxilla. The beaks carry fish-hook serrations that bite into the root surface. As a result, you can hold a root firmly without crushing it. Both are made to our specification; inspection of each angle happens in the United States.
Why Serrations Matter on a Root
A smooth beak can slip on a wet, narrow root. Then you tend to squeeze harder, and the root may crack. Instead, fish-hook serrations hold with less force. That suits an atraumatic approach, where the goal is intact socket walls for healing or for a later implant.
Two Angles to Pick From
- 45° angle – a gentler bend between beaks and handles
- 90° angle – a sharper bend between beaks and handles
Choose by access and by how you like to hold the tool. A gentle bend keeps the handles closer to the line of the root. However, a sharper bend moves your hand further out of the line of sight. Many keep both, but we sell each angle as its own item.
Using the Forceps on a Root
First, seat the beaks as far apically on the root as you can. Next, close the handles just enough for the serrations to engage. Then rock the root gently toward cheek and palate in short moves. Finally, deliver the root once it moves freely.
Cleaning the Serrations
On fish-hook upper root forceps, the serrations trap debris more easily than smooth beaks. So scrub them with a soft brush soon after use, and check them under good light. In addition, oil the joint after cleaning to keep the action smooth.
Before You Order
We dispatch these forceps non-sterile. Sterilise them after a full clean before the first case, and they stay reusable through routine reprocessing. The steel complies with ASTM F899. For peace of mind, we give three years against manufacturing defects on both angle versions. If you also do lower roots, look at the lower root forceps range.
