Root-canal Excavators
Access cavities often hold soft debris, pulp remnants and old cement that a bur would cut too aggressively. A root canal excavator lets the clinician scoop that material out by hand with tactile control. Intrace USA, a distributor based in Atlanta, lists three catalogue figures in two handle styles, and every excavator receives a careful look in the United States.
Scooping Inside the Pulp Chamber
Excavators have small spoon-shaped blades on long, angled shanks. Because of that reach, the blade gets into the chamber and around the orifices while the handle stays outside the tooth. Also, working by hand tells your fingertips when soft debris gives way to firm dentine. Then you can switch to explorers and files once the chamber is clear.
Three Figures, Two Handle Styles
Every figure is double-ended, and all three share a Fig 6 end:
- Fig 6/1: the 6 end paired with a Fig 1 end.
- Paired with a Fig 17 end, Fig 6/17 gives a different second blade.
- Our third choice, Fig 6/23, pairs the 6 end with a Fig 23 end.
You can also order each figure as Style 2. That label marks an alternate handle printed beside the standard one in our supplier listing. No written explanation of the handle change exists, so please study both photos. After that, choose whichever grip suits your endodontic tray.
Picking Your First Figure
Start with the figure that your training or current kit uses. When unsure, many clinicians begin with one figure and add the others after a few cases. Meanwhile, keep standard and Style 2 handles on separate trays so assistants can tell them apart.
Edge Care After Each Case
Small spoon edges dull and nick over time. Therefore, brush them clean promptly and inspect them under magnification. The root canal excavator is shipped non-sterile, so complete cleaning and steam sterilization first. Every handle style on this page enjoys three years against manufacturing defects.
Its stainless steel is graded under ASTM F899. Find related tools in the diagnostic, periodontal and restorative category, team the excavator with matching Root Canal Explorers in the same figure numbers, or visit our FAQ hub.
Distributed for trained endodontic and dental professionals. Consult the instrument sterilization page and our shipping overview on arrival.
