Description
Quatro Aspirating Dental Syringe
The quatro aspirating syringe is a ring-and-flange cartridge syringe for manual aspiration. Quatro is the pattern name used in the catalogue. In use, it gives you a thumb ring, a finger flange and a harpoon that hooks a 1.8 ml cartridge stopper.
A short guide to aspiration
Aspiration checks whether the needle tip sits in a blood vessel. First, place the tip at the target. Then pull the thumb ring back a few millimetres and hold. If you see blood in the cartridge, move the needle and test again. If the glass stays clear, you can inject slowly.
Why the harpoon matters
Without a hook, the plunger can only push. The harpoon digs into the rubber stopper, so pulling the ring also pulls the stopper. On the quatro aspirating syringe, that small backward move creates the suction for the test.
Tips for a clean test
- Seat the harpoon firmly when you load
- Keep the pull short and gentle
- Turn the barrel slightly and test again on deep blocks
- Use a fresh cartridge for each patient
Where it fits
Aspiration matters most where large vessels lie near the target. For example, many clinicians test before the inferior alveolar block. They also often test with infiltration, out of habit and care.
Quatro next to Trio
On paper, both share a ring and a flange. Still, they carry different pattern names, and the shape of the parts can differ. If you already stock one, it makes sense to stay with it so the whole team holds the same tool.
Each Quatro syringe leaves us non-sterile and returns to service after cleaning and autoclaving. For its steel parts, we follow ASTM F899. Every Quatro syringe carries three years against manufacturing defects, harpoon included. See all our anaesthetic syringes, the matching Trio aspirating syringe, or our answers to frequent questions.
