When a PoloKoff Beats a Bur

A rotary bur is fast, but it generates heat and needs irrigation. A hand file, by contrast, gives tactile feedback and removes bone a little at a time. Therefore many surgeons keep the PoloKoff on the tray for the final touch, even when a handpiece did the heavy work. It also suits sites where a bur would risk the soft tissue nearby.

Looking After the File Teeth

Bone debris packs into the cutting pattern, so brush the teeth of the PoloKoff under running water soon after surgery. Then process it through your washer or ultrasonic and autoclave. It arrives unsterile, and the same routine applies before the first case.
