At 6cm, the pley eye speculum is one of the smaller frames in our range. It holds the lids apart and keeps them still. So it suits cases where a big frame would crowd the eye or the lids are tight.

Why choose a small Pley frame

A small speculum puts less steel around the eye. That gives you more room for your hands and other tools. It may also feel kinder on narrow lids. However, it opens less than a larger frame, so it is not the first pick for a wide adult eye.

Typical cases for a 6cm speculum

Think of pediatric eyes, small adult fissures and short exams under the microscope. For example, a brief lid or conjunctival procedure on a small eye is a good fit. Meanwhile, for long cataract cases on large eyes, a 7cm or 8cm frame often works better.

• Use gentle pressure as the blades go under the lids.
• Watch for tension on the lids once open.
• Remove it slowly and close the frame first.
• Inspect the small blades closely after cleaning.

Looking after the Pley speculum

Because it is small, it can slip through basket gaps, so use a fine mesh tray. Rinse it soon after use, then clean and dry it. The speculum ships non-sterile and needs a full sterilization cycle first. After that, you can reuse it for many cases.
