Placement Instruments
Between mixing and finishing, restorative material has to reach the cavity in a controlled way. These dental placement instruments do that carrying job for liners, bases and filling materials. They sit on the filling instruments page of the supplier catalogue, next to contra-angled patterns. Our Atlanta shop offers four styles.
Where Placement Fits in a Restoration
After the preparation is cleaned, a liner or base often goes in first. Then the main material follows in small increments. A placement instrument picks up each portion and sets it against the cavity floor or walls. So the operator controls the amount and position before any condensing or sculpting begins.
Comparing Style 1, Style 2, Style 3 and Style 4
All four are catalogued as placement instruments on one page, numbered by row. Beyond the style number, the catalogue does not describe the working ends or handles. Therefore, the product photos are your main guide. For instance, compare the angle of each end and the size of the nib against your own cavity sizes.
Building a Small Set
Few clinicians need every style. Instead, choose one for posterior cavities and one for small anterior work. Later, add a third if a particular technique, such as layering a base, calls for a different shape. Because each style is sold singly, a set can grow gradually.
Material Handling Tips
Wipe material off the working end between increments, since set residue makes placing harder. Also, avoid using the instrument to pry or lever, which can bend a fine end.
Before leaving Atlanta, each instrument is looked over by our United States staff. Any of the four styles you choose is guaranteed three years against manufacturing defects in its working ends. As shipped, they are not sterile; clean and sterilize them before patient use.
The alloy meets ASTM F899. Explore the restorative instruments category, look at our Contra-Angled Filling Instruments, or read the FAQs.
