Description
Periosteal-Tome, Periotome and Periosteal Elevator
Atraumatic extraction before an implant usually means switching between a periotome and an elevator many times. A combination periotome periosteal elevator puts both functions in one instrument. Our supplier catalogue calls it the Periosteal-Tome and lists it on two different pages.
Two Functions on One Instrument
The periotome side is thin enough to slip into the sulcus and sever the periodontal ligament. Meanwhile, the periosteal side lifts gingiva and periosteum away from the bone. So the clinician can release the tooth and reflect the tissue without reaching for a second tool.
Style 1 or Style 2
The two options are separate catalogue patterns with the same description.
- Style 1: listed in the catalogue’s periosteal elevators section.
- Style 2: listed alongside the periotomes, mallet and holding forceps.
The catalogue does not spell out how their working ends differ. Therefore, please compare the two product photos and choose the profile that suits your technique.
Using It Before Implant Placement
Begin by inserting the periotome end along the root surface at a shallow angle. Then advance it around the circumference in small increments, letting the ligament give way. Once the tooth loosens, turn the instrument and use the elevator end to free the soft tissue. This sequence helps to preserve the socket walls for the implant that follows.
Our United States team examines every combination periotome periosteal elevator. Expect three years against manufacturing defects on whichever of the two styles you select. Each piece arrives unsterilized and needs cleaning and sterilization before the procedure.
The blade steel is chosen to ASTM F899 for surgical-use stainless. Shop the full collection of implant instruments, and for a dedicated single-purpose blade compare the straight periotome with fixed tip. Answers to common questions are on our FAQs page.
