Description
Mixter-O’Shaugnessy Bronchus And Gall Duct Clamps
The Mixter-O’Shaugnessy clamp is a right-angle dissecting clamp for delicate work behind ducts and vessels. It comes in 15, 15.5, 18 and 19 cm.
Getting behind structures
A right-angle tip lets a surgeon pass beneath a duct without lifting it far. Then a tie can go around it with minimal handling. So this pattern suits close, careful dissection.
Shorter sizes
The 15 and 15.5 cm sizes suit shallow fields and smaller patients. Meanwhile, the 18 and 19 cm sizes reach further into the chest or abdomen. Each length keeps the same right-angle tip.
Where teams use it
General surgeons reach for it near the bile duct. Also, thoracic surgeons use a Mixter-O’Shaugnessy clamp around the bronchus and hilar vessels. Therefore it fits both kinds of set.
Choosing sizes
Order the shorter sizes for pediatric or superficial work. Alternatively, choose 18 or 19 cm for routine adult cases. Many sets carry one short and one long.
Reprocessing Mixter-O’Shaugnessy clamp
Pay close attention to the inside of the right-angle bend. Because blood gathers there, brush it from both sides. Then rinse, dry and keep the clamp away from heavier instruments.
