Luxating Elevators / Periotomes
This luxating elevator periotome has a very thin blade that slips into the ligament space and cuts the fibres. It comes in four widths, with straight and curved forms. So you can work from incisors to molar roots with one family of tools.
Six width and shape choices
You can order each option singly. Here is how the range lines up:
- 2 mm Straight and 3 mm Straight: slim roots such as incisors.
- 3 mm Curved: small roots where you need to reach a palatal or distal face.
- 4 mm Straight: a good fit for premolars.
- 5 mm Straight and 5 mm Curved: broad molar roots, with the curve for hard-to-reach faces.
Start narrow, then widen
First, choose the narrowest width the space accepts. Then trade up as the socket opens. In practice, a 2 mm or 3 mm blade starts most cases, while 4 mm and 5 mm blades finish them. That way, you never force a wide blade into a tight gap.
Light pressure, small movements
Press toward the apex with gentle force and rock the blade a few degrees. Next, move around the root and repeat. Above all, do not pry with the tip, because a thin edge is not built for leverage.
Why curved forms earn a place
Straight blades reach most buccal and mesial faces. However, palatal and distal faces often sit at an awkward angle. The curved 3 mm and 5 mm forms let you meet those faces without twisting your wrist.
Warranty, standards and links
Each luxating elevator periotome ships non-sterile, and a full cleaning and sterilization makes it ready to reuse. These blades follow our specification, and staff here in the United States inspect them, while the steel complies with ASTM F899. Should a defect in manufacture surface, our warranty answers for it with three years against manufacturing defects, though not normal wear. Pair it with the periotome handle and swap-in blades, or explore all root and luxating elevators. Our FAQ page covers orders and returns.
