Luks Root Canal Pluggers
A luks root canal plugger compacts gutta-percha vertically during root canal filling. The flat-ended tip pushes softened material down and against the canal walls. As a result, the filling becomes denser and fills irregular spaces. This page offers four Luks figures from the supplier catalogue.
Four Numbered Luks Figures
The catalogue lists Luks Fig. 1 through Fig. 4 side by side. Each figure has its own working end, so endodontists choose the one that fits the canal at each depth. Because the catalogue shows them only as drawings, check the photos to compare the tips. Many clinicians buy the full run of four, then use them in sequence.
Sizing a Plugger to the Canal
A plugger should move freely in the canal without binding on the walls. So try it in before you begin, and note the depth it reaches. Then pick a smaller figure for the apical third and a larger one for the coronal part.
Vertical Compaction Step by Step
First, sear off the excess gutta-percha with a heated instrument. Next, press the plugger down with firm, steady force for a few seconds. Afterwards, repeat at deeper levels until the canal is filled to the planned point.
Cleaning Gutta-Percha Off the Tip
Wipe the tip with an alcohol gauze between compactions, since sealer builds up quickly. Also inspect the tip for bends, which reduce control.
Luks pluggers are stainless steel and are checked in the United States by our Atlanta team before shipping. Your pluggers travel unsterilized; process them through cleaning and a steam cycle before any obturation. Each Luks figure is guaranteed three years against manufacturing defects at the working tip and handle.
The steel complies with ASTM F899. More endodontic hand tools sit in the diagnostic and restorative category, and for lateral technique add a spreader for lateral condensation. Our FAQs answer common questions.
Pluggers are supplied for trained endodontists and dentists. Read the endodontic instrument care notes and shipping details.
