These palatal arch pliers shape the heavier wire used for lingual and palatal arches. The work is mostly done at the lab bench on a model. Then the arch goes to the chair for a fit check.

Heavier wire, firmer grip

Lingual and palatal arches use stiffer wire than an archwire. So the plier needs a firm grip and a sturdy joint. The catalogue prints a range of .76 to .30 mm beside inch figures that do not match. For that reason, please ask us before you plan around a size.

Mark, bend, then seat on the model

Mark the bend points on the model first. Next, make each bend in small steps. Then seat the wire on the model and check it sits passive before you solder or fit it.

Small tweaks at the fit visit

Sometimes an arch needs a small change at the fit visit. In that case, the palatal arch pliers let you make the tweak without a trip back to the lab. Still, larger changes are easier on the model.

Stiff wire and the joint

Stiff wire puts load on the hinge. After cleaning, dry the plier fully, and add a little oil if the joint feels tight. This keeps the action even for years.
