Description
Lingual Arch Back-Bending Pliers
A lingual arch needs tight, folded bends where the wire meets the molar bands. Our lingual arch back-bending pliers form those double-back and triple-back bends in thick wire. So you can build or refit a fixed lingual appliance with one tool.
What a Back Bend Does
A back bend folds the wire on itself. Then the doubled end gives a firm point to solder, or to engage an attachment on the band. In practice, a clean fold also keeps the arch from slipping as the patient chews.
Rated for Heavy Lingual Wire
The catalogue lists this plier for lingual arch wire of 0.76 mm and 0.91 mm. That is much thicker than a working archwire. However, do not move to larger sizes, because extra force can spring the joint. For fine wire, reach for a light wire plier instead.
Lab Bench or Chairside
Most of this work happens at the bench, while you form a new arch on a model. Still, a quick fold at the chair can save a remake when a band seats a little off. The plier fits both jobs.
Making a Neat Triple Fold
- Mark the fold point on the wire with a fine pen.
- Next, grip close to the mark and make the first back bend.
- Reseat the beaks on the doubled wire and fold again for a triple back.
- Finally, try the arch on the model and adjust before you solder.
Joint Care for Heavy Wire
Heavy wire puts load on the hinge. After cleaning, add a little lube to the box joint and work the handles a few times. Also check that the beaks still close square.
Warranty, Steel and Next Steps
Each plier follows a specification we wrote, and our US staff look it over before dispatch. Its stainless body answers to ASTM F899. Also, we stand behind the joint and beaks with three years against manufacturing defects, no matter how busy your lab gets. Before first use, wash and sterilize it, since it comes to you non-sterile; you can then reuse it again and again. For the arch itself, pair it with our lingual / palatal arch forming pliers.
