Description
Ligature Forming Pliers
Ligature forming pliers shape fine steel ligature wire before you tie it in. Pre-formed ties go on faster and sit closer to the bracket. This plier is listed for wire of .010” to .015”.
Why pre-form a tie
A straight piece of ligature wire can fight you at the chair. However, a tie with a shape already in it wraps the wings with less effort. So the patient spends less time with the mouth open.
Matched to fine wire
The rated range covers the fine wire most offices use for steel ties. Because the plier is light, keep it for that range only. Heavier wire belongs in a sturdier plier.
A simple tying routine
- First, cut a length of ligature wire.
- Then shape it in the plier to the form you prefer.
- Next, place it around the bracket and twist it home.
- Finally, trim the end and tuck it under.
Partners on the tray
Ligature forming pliers pair well with a tying forceps and a fine cutter. In addition, a ligature director helps tuck the cut end. Together they cover a full steel tie from start to finish.
Small tips, small checks
Fine tips bend if they hit hard steel. After each use, look at them against a light. If they no longer close square, set the plier aside and contact us.
Before you buy
The plier follows our specification, and checks on it happen in the United States. It uses stainless steel that satisfies ASTM F899. Out of the pack it is not sterile; give it a full clean and sterilisation cycle, and it is ready to reuse. If a build fault appears, we will sort it out; that is what three years against manufacturing defects means here. To snip ties after twisting, look at our mini and micro ligature cutters.
