Description
Lichtenberg-Ryder
Closing a flap neatly needs a holder that grips a small needle without letting it twist. The Lichtenberg-Ryder needle holder is a fine suturing pattern listed in our supplier catalogue at 17 cm. We sell it in two forms, Curved and Straight. Prior to shipping, each holder gets a United States bench check of its jaws, lock and finish.
The Role of a Fine Needle Holder
Heavier holders suit thick tissue and large needles, but they can crush small sutures. A Ryder style pattern, by comparison, is made for delicate needles in thin mucosa or facial skin. At 17 cm, it also gives enough length to reach posterior sites while the hand stays comfortable. Surgeons therefore often keep it beside a standard holder rather than in place of one.
Curved or Straight at 17 cm
Both options are the same length and pattern. The Curved version bends the jaw tip slightly, so you can pass the needle around a corner of the arch more easily. In addition, the bend keeps your view of the needle clear. The Straight version, meanwhile, gives the most direct feel and lines the needle up with the shaft. If you mostly suture in the anterior region, start with Straight. For molar areas and palatal flaps, the curve usually helps.
Steel and Warranty
The holder is stainless steel. It is delivered non-sterile, so wash it, check the jaws under light and run a sterilizer cycle before the first case. Moreover, our pledge on this holder runs three years against manufacturing defects; if a lock or jaw fails early, we sort it out.
See the ASTM F899 standard for the steel used in surgical instruments. Further suturing tools are listed in our Maxillofacial Surgery Instruments range. To trim sutures once you finish, the Stevens scissors pair well with this holder. Our FAQs answer common questions about orders.
Designed for use by trained surgeons and dental professionals. Follow the care and sterilization instructions after each use, and read shipping and delivery for dispatch times.
