The konig periodontal elevator is a classic European pattern for freeing soft tissue from bone. Our version measures 15.5 cm from end to end. In the supplier catalogue it appears on the second periodontal page, next to the Freer, Seldin and Williger designs. Since there is only one Konig listing, the length and pattern are fixed.

Reflecting Tissue With the Konig Pattern

After the incision, the clinician works the blade under the periosteum and lifts the flap off the cortical plate. That gives a clear view of the crest, a furcation or an extraction site. The Konig shape also helps when you need to retract the reflected flap for a moment while another hand irrigates or sutures.

Why 15.5 cm Matters

Length decides how far your fingers sit from the mouth. At 15.5 cm, the Konig gives a little more reach than the 14.5 cm Partsch pattern we also carry. So it suits posterior sites and patients with limited opening, where your hand should stay outside the arch. However, some operators prefer the shorter tool for anterior flaps, so a mixed tray is common.
