Description

Freer Periodontal Instruments

The Freer name is best known for slim, gentle elevators. This freer periodontal instrument brings that pattern to the dental tray, where small flaps call for a light touch. Our supplier catalogue places it on its periodontal page beside the Seldin, Williger and Partsch patterns. Two figures are offered: Fig. 15 and Fig. 16.

Light Elevation in Tight Spaces

Between teeth, especially in the anterior, the papilla is narrow and easy to tear. A slender Freer working end can slip under it and free the tissue gradually. Surgeons also use it to start a full-thickness flap before switching to a broader elevator. In this way, the Freer opens the plane and other instruments widen it.

Fig. 15 and Fig. 16 Side by Side

The catalogue labels the two only by figure number. However, it lists no length or blade width for either one. So, to decide, compare the photos of each working end on this page. Alternatively, some clinicians buy both, then learn which shape they reach for first.

Typical Procedures for a Freer Pattern

  • Releasing papillae before scaling and root planing under a flap
  • Starting flap elevation around implant sites
  • Lifting tissue gently near a graft or membrane edge

Each of these tasks benefits from fine control rather than force. Therefore, keep heavier elevators nearby for broad bone exposure.

Quality Review and Warranty Terms

Both figures pass a hands-on review in the United States before we send them. They are not sterile on arrival, so sterilize each instrument prior to clinical use. Our coverage protects the Freer for three years against manufacturing defects, wherever it is used in your practice.

The instrument steel is defined by ASTM F899. Similar tools appear under diagnostic, periodontal and restorative instruments. For wider elevation, add a Prichard PR3 periosteal elevator, and turn to our FAQs for order questions.
