Description
Prichard PR3 Periosteal Elevator
Periodontists have long relied on the Prichard pattern for flap work. Its catalogue figure is this PR3 periosteal elevator. It reflects tissue from bone and can also help hold a flap back while the surgeon works. We offer it in two materials. So one pattern can serve both general and implant trays.
Picking the Material: Steel or Titanium
The two options differ only in material:
- Stainless Steel, the everyday version for periodontal surgery
- Titanium, a lighter version of the same PR3 pattern
Implant teams often prefer titanium near implant surfaces, so they may choose that option. Meanwhile, a general periodontal practice usually finds stainless steel the practical choice. If you run both types of procedure, consider one of each.
Reflecting and Retracting With One Tool
Once the incision is made, start the reflection at a papilla and work along the bone. Then, as the flap opens, the elevator can rest against bone and keep tissue out of the field. That dual role reduces instrument changes. However, avoid prying against thin bone, since gentle pressure is all the technique needs.
Teaming the PR3 With Other Elevators
Many surgeons set the Prichard beside an Allen 9A or a Molt. For example, one may begin a flap with the Allen and switch to the PR3 for retraction. Also, a matched set in one material keeps handling consistent through the case.
How Each PR3 Is Prepared for You
Our inspectors in the United States check each PR3 for edge finish and straightness. No PR3 leaves our dock sterile, so put yours through washing and the autoclave ahead of surgery. Titanium or steel, a PR3 that fails from a production fault is replaced within three years against manufacturing defects.
See how ASTM F899 defines surgical stainless steel, browse our maxillofacial instrument category, and pair the PR3 with the Allen #9A periosteal elevator. Account and order questions are covered in our help FAQs.
The Prichard PR3 is intended for use by trained periodontal and implant surgeons; consult care and sterilization and order delivery pages.
