Description
Intima Spatula
An intima spatula lifts plaque away from the artery wall during endarterectomy. This blunt version comes in eight lengths from 14 to 23.5 cm.
Blunt tip
A blunt tip lets the surgeon work along the dissection plane rather than cut. So it suits the careful, gradual work of endarterectomy. Also, it helps lift loose edges of plaque.
Eight lengths
Short sizes of 14 and 15 cm suit shallow arteries in the neck or limbs. Then the 18 to 20 cm sizes cover mid-depth work. Finally, the 21.5 to 23.5 cm sizes reach deeper vessels.
Tip width
The 18.5 cm and 21.5 cm sizes carry a 3.0 mm tip. Also, every length has blunt edges that lift plaque without cutting the vessel wall. So pick the length that matches the depth of the artery.
Choosing between spatulas
This range offers many lengths, while the Robb set offers four tip-width pairs. So choose an intima spatula by reach first, then by tip size. In addition, some teams keep both types on hand for different arteries.
Looking after intima spatula
Rinse the spatula soon after use so no plaque residue dries on the tip. Next, look over the blunt edge for any damage. Then dry it and store it by length so staff pick the right size fast.
