Howard Bone Files
The howard bone file is a familiar pattern for finishing bone during exodontia and ridge work. We stock it in three catalogue figures, which appear together on the second bone files page of our supplier catalogue. All three serve the same purpose: to round off sharp alveolar bone by hand once the bulk has been removed.
Fig. 12, Fig. 12A and Fig. 12CA
Fig. 12 is the base Howard listing in the catalogue. Fig. 12A and Fig. 12CA follow it as related figures of the same family. However, the catalogue gives no written detail on how their working ends differ. So line up the three Howard photos side by side, and match the end shape to the files you already like. Our FAQs page also explains how to reach us with questions.

Finishing Bone After Extractions
When several teeth come out together, the crest often has ridges and spikes. A Howard file smooths them with short strokes, while you feel the contour under your fingers. Then the flap can close over rounded bone. Also, the file helps refine a socket rim before grafting.
Howard Steel and Our Inspection
Each Howard file is surgical stainless steel, and our staff check every figure in the United States before it ships. The files reach you non-sterile, so scrub out the teeth, clean and autoclave them first. We back all three Howard figures for three years against manufacturing defects, whichever one you choose.
Our steel follows the ASTM F899 specification. See more in our Maxillofacial Surgery Instruments range, or pair the howard bone file with the Wahl bone files. Order help is in our FAQs.
