Description
Wahl Bone Files
After an extraction, the socket walls can leave a sharp ridge under the gum. A wahl bone file lets the surgeon level that edge before closing the flap. Oral surgeons and general dentists both use it during alveoloplasty and denture preparation. We stock the two Wahl figures from our supplier catalogue, Fig. 1 and Fig. 2.
Telling Fig. 1 From Fig. 2
The catalogue simply numbers these two Wahl patterns. It gives no separate length or tooth pattern for either one. So look closely at both working ends in the gallery images above. Then pick the figure whose shape matches the sites you treat most.
Why Ridge Smoothing Matters
A rough crest can make a denture uncomfortable and can delay soft tissue closure. Therefore, many clinicians file the ridge lightly before suturing. The file removes small irregularities that a rongeur leaves behind. In practice, a rongeur takes the bulk first, and then the file refines the surface.
Keeping the Cutting Surface Clean
Bone dust packs into the teeth of any file quickly. Wipe the working end often during the procedure, especially between strokes on dense bone. Afterwards, scrub the grooves with a soft brush before the ultrasonic cycle. Clean teeth cut better on the next case.
Inspection and Warranty for Wahl Files
Our quality team in the United States examines both figures before they leave the shelf. Each file reaches you non-sterile, so sterilize it before surgical use. Should either Wahl figure show a fault in how it was made, our coverage applies, running three years against manufacturing defects.
The stainless steel corresponds to ASTM F899 for surgical instrument steel. Visit our maxillofacial surgery instruments page for related tools. For bulk bone removal first, choose Blumenthal bone rongeurs, and see our FAQs for anything else.
Offered for trained dental and oral surgery professionals. Before first use, consult our sterilization page, and check how we ship.
