Description
Hollow-Chop Archwire Forming Pliers
Hollow-chop pliers form a smooth curve along an archwire. One tip is concave and the other is convex, so the wire bends around a rounded face. You get an even sweep rather than a sharp kink.
Concave meets convex
When you close the plier, the convex tip pushes the wire into the concave one. As a result, the bend follows the shape of the tips. This suits arch form changes where a gentle curve matters more than a crisp angle.
From light round to full size rectangular
The catalogue range starts at .012” round and climbs to .028”. On rectangular wire it goes as far as .022 by .028 in. So the hollow-chop pliers cover most archwires you will meet in mid treatment.
Tips for an even sweep
- Work in short steps along the wire.
- Move the plier a little between each squeeze.
- Check the arch on a chart or model as you go.
Bench first, chair second
Many clinicians shape a new archwire at the bench, then fine tune it at the chair. This plier fits both places. However, it is a forming tool, not a cutter, so pair it with a distal end cutter for the ends.
Look after the curved faces
Nicks on the curved faces mark the wire. Therefore, keep the tips apart in the tray and avoid tossing the plier in a bin with others. A drop of oil on a dry joint also keeps the action smooth.
Order and backing details
We design to our own specification, and staff here inspect every unit before it goes out. The stainless steel matches ASTM F899. It comes to you non-sterile, and after proper cleaning and sterilisation you can use it again and again. We stand by it with three years against manufacturing defects, which takes in faults from the build. To cut the ends, add the safety hold distal cutter. Our orthodontic tools page lists more, and our FAQs cover orders.
