Description
Heavy-Duty Wire Cutters
Thick wire ruins light cutters fast. This retainer wire cutter range gives you two heavy options instead. The Extra Heavy (to .060″) takes archwires and retainer wire. The Heavy Duty (to .080″) handles face bows and other large wire.
Two Options, Two Limits
- Extra Heavy (to .060″): cuts all archwires and retainer wires up to .060”; a strong lab plier for heavy retainer wire
- Heavy Duty (to .080″): a unique joint and a very sturdy edge for face bows and large wire up to .080”
Which Cutter for Which Wire
Choose by the thickest wire you plan to cut. If your work stops at retainer wire, the Extra Heavy is the better fit. However, if you trim face bows, you need the Heavy Duty. Each option comes on its own; buy one or both.
Important: Heavy Duty Is Not Autoclavable
The catalogue states plainly that the Heavy Duty (to .080″) cutter is not autoclavable. Do not put it in an autoclave. Instead, follow the cleaning steps on our care page that suit a tool of this kind. Plan for that before it joins your clinic workflow.
Lab Bench Workhorse
Both cutters are at home in the lab. For example, a technician may trim retainer wire with the Extra Heavy, then cut a bow with the Heavy Duty. In both cases, keep to the rated size. A cut above the limit can chip the edge for good.
Keeping the Edges Sound
Wipe the edges after each session. Then look for nicks under good light. Also check the joint for play, because heavy cuts load it hard.
Both options ship non-sterile. The Extra Heavy is reusable after cleaning and sterilisation. The Heavy Duty is reusable too, but only with a method that does not use the autoclave.
Each retainer wire cutter option has three years against manufacturing defects, and a flaw from production is ours to fix. The steel meets ASTM F899. For the bends on those same bows, see our face bow bending and cutting pliers. Find lighter cutters in our orthodontic cutters and pliers, and get order answers on our FAQs.
